I have a qwextion for the assembled- what's the effect of
Value Added Taxes on all these tariffs? I remember reading
here some time ago, before Trump, That we trade with 160
countries that have these taxes and they can be used to sidestep
Tariffs, especially using tax rebates. I like tariffs and they
should have been imposed as part of a broad industrial policy
In the late 70's which would have ameliorated the wholesale destruction of our industrial base and the impoverishment of the working class. But we Americans require instant solutions to everything and don't do long-term planning very well, so I suppose it's the best that can be expected. Seems very chaotic, though.
Happy Columbus day to all.

Does anyone else see  the similarity of the border situation with Tammany Hall
in New York bringing in the Irish for votes back in the 1850's or so?
I think of Trump as the Ralph Cramden of Presidents.

Voted for Trump yesterday, used to be a Democrat when they were
the champion of working people and the downtrodden
but now they are just the smug, pompous vanguard of the new
yuppie aristocracy.
Technocrats, the 9%.

I have a quextion- Have heard that at the end of the Reagan era the CIA, state dep't
and others organized a large action by most of the central banks. This was organized through JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs and they used futures and options to drive the price of gold down to $200 and oil to $10/ barrel which collapsed the Soviet Union. I remember this happening but had no idea it was economic warfare. Does anyone know of any books about this, or maybe an old article in the Atlantic or something? Our greatest weakness is economic, and i fear our enemies are waiting to release some sort similar action to wreck our banking and monetary system as revenge. Maybe induce a cascading counterparty failure in the swaps markets somehow. I have to say I prefer economic warfare to nuclear,
but this still keeps me up at night. Last I heard our economy here is 46% financials,
which is just stupid.
Thanks!
