The situation in Russia is not much different then ww2. After the break up of Soviet union, the western allies promised Russia that NATO will not expand.
But what happened is total opposite, they surrounded Russia with military basis, every europien country that was under Russian control is now a NATO ally of USA. Ukraine is next to Russia , so Putin put his foot down and said that is not going to happen there. Don't forget that as soon as Ukraine became independent Soros with others were there to take control and it went so far as
in 2014 they with total help of us government took full control of Ukraine.
At that time ukrainen army started to wage war on their own citizens and killed many thousand of innocent civilians in Donbas and Luhansk, at it continued all along with all western allies arming the ukes and getting ready to attack Russia. So when Putin side learned about it they attacked first. The war could very easy come to an end. All the NATO has to do is not expand to Ukraine.
But they are not going to do it willingly, because the aim is to get all resources
for free. It was the aim of all the wars against Russia, and it still is. Hitler and Napoleon were both build up by western allies so they can get to attack Russia.
