Had to put my Cocker Spaniel down yesterday.

Life sucks.---Hambone

We did same thing.  Tough.  Coors we GOT her at age 15.   Found her in the street and rescued her.  She had a chip.   The...owner (scum okie) WANTED HER BACK!
Damn!
About a month later, I called to ask if they still wanted to keep her.

They didn't.

Of course they had let her be bullied by their pit bull and she had got chased into the pool and got sick.
Soooo....we got her, fixed her up and had her another 2 years.
Great lil dog.

The deputy PM has (IIRC) been defeated twice to be nominated as leader for his party.. He is gay, which is not seen as beneficial in political circles and, to use a rugby metaphor, it’s a hospital pass.*
Though I’m not a fan of Jacinta, she has steered NZ though a volcanic eruption (White Island), a Muslim terrorist attack and this pandemonium pandemic in ways that, frankly, no other NZ pollie would’ve managed any better.

She knows she couldn’t stay in power and quitting now will allow her to step, unblemished,  into some UN type position in a year or two.

Grief is the price we pay for love

Full quote

The pain of grief is just as much part of life as the joy of love:it is perhaps the price we pay for love, the cost of commitment. To ignore this fact, or to pretend that it is not so, is to put on emotional blinkers which leave us unprepared for the losses that will inevitably occur in our own lives and unprepared to help others cope with losses in theirs

Well, we didn't quite make it to that $1940-$1945 level -- although it could still occur tonight -- but we came close at $1935-ish....Silver reversed upward and just about made it to the $24.00 level (altho the March contract did), but, too, could still take another pop upward tonight or by the close tomorrow....But, IF NOT for either of these metals, I'd be watching for a serious pullback ("correction") to begin by next Monday at the latest....wolavka will bah-humbug that, but caution is advised.....

Sad to hear of David Crosby's death, even though he was a bit of a left-winger at times and supported all the warped info on the jabs.....smiled, though, to know that d**khead Alex Baldwin was being charged in the death of that movie producer/director "accidentally" shot by a revolver Baldwin claimes he never pulled the trigger on....yeah, right....it just...discharged itself.....he, of course, will point the finger at the crew who were in charge of the "props" and probably beat the charges in a long court battle....

Yea, Crosby, Nash & Stills picked up a guitar at Moma Cass' house & the rest was history - Nash said the first time they sang together @ Moma Cass', "it felt so right". Funny thing, they had a hard time getting a record sponsor - flew to England and sang the entire first album to George Harrison in his home looking for Apple to underwrite them - Harrison turned them down - didn't like their stuff. But they eventually got "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" on the air & the rest was history. RIP D Crosby & yes, he was a Left-Wing nutjob, but sensible at times.

Crosby had trashed Buffalo Springfield until he heard "For What its Worth" & then he became a big Steven Stills fan

The "Reunion Album" in 1978 was their best album - But they did not produce much that wasn't good. Stills was a master inside the studio - live, they were just OK - good on the acoustic stuff, but given Stills was the only serious guitar player & a very under-rated one, he redubbed the studio stuff, so live, their electric stuff was weak. Which is why they recruited Young - had worked with Stills in Buffalo Springfield & as Stills stated "Neil's easy to work with as long as he's not into being disruptive"

Nash, Crosby and Stephen Stills initially met in 1966 when Nash, then in the band The Hollies, was on a U.S. tour. The three reunited at a now nearly-mythic party at the Laurel Canyon home of Cass Elliott. Nash soon left the Hollies to for Crosby and Stills in 1968. (A year later, Neil Young began and off and on collaboration with the trio as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

wolakva: Thanks for the crow article. We have a group around our house that my wife has gotten to know. She feeds them raw eggs sometimes. They will stand out in her garden and call to her when they are hungry. Usually around 400PM. This started as she felt sorry for one that lost a foot and hobbled around on a peg leg. 2 years later he is still around and still hobbling. I suspect he lost his foot in a battle with a squirrel or cat. They are very intelligent.

Well...we didn't quite reach that $1940. target but, again, came close overnight rising to $1937.50.....same thing for sludge -- couldn't reach $24.20, but got up to $24.07...it's still weaker than gold, probably a bit oversold....maybe we'll get some action to the upside today, but I'm sticking with my expectations for a downside correction coming in the days ahead, like maybe Sunday night/Monday morning.....

I had a crow following me around and diving at me at the UW campus as a student.  Even after I cut through the massive hospital complex, it would be waiting for me on the other side.  A few years later, a study was conducted on campus that showed that crows recognize individuals, and amazingly they can relate this to other crows.  So when my dog was dying and mostly blind, I used to carry it out into the yard and place a few biscuits on top of various objects so it could find them. The crows soon be came part of the game, and I would talk to them, telling them to let the dog have first shot at the biscuits.  Two of the young crows became very familiar with me and follow me around when walking through town.  The most bizarre incident was when someone posted on local social media that there was a partially white crow in the area.  So I told the crows to tell the white crow to pay me a visit.  The next day I was in line at the ford dealership at the crack of dawn a few miles away.  You guess it.  The white crow showed up and scolded me for about 30 minutes.  The others in line were blown away.

I certainly can not support even one part of the U.S. Government over the last two years and the Republican system of checks and balances really went off the rails after 911 and after JFK was murdered by the CIA in Dallas.

We are a fallen people and should beg for God's forgiveness from having been a part in the demons plan for a NWO.  Sadly, I now feel that judgement is coming in mushroom shaped clouds sometime in the next 3 to 5 years.

Highly recommend “The Secret Life of Birds” by Colin Tudge, there are many stories of bird communicating with each other and their “intelligence.”

My story… several years ago I put bird netting over my tomatoes to prevent them birds eating the ripe ones.  Occasionally a bird would find a way inside and I’d usually chase them out with a big stick… this one time, I was annoyed by the bird inside the netting, instead of chasing it out, I hit it hard and killed it.  Two days later, a bird came into our conservatory and began a 3 minute squawking at us, running around the room going crazy before leaving.  It’s never happened before or since.  I’m certain the bird saw what I did and expressed it’s contempt for me.

And, if you like this, look for The Secret Life of Trees, also by Colin Tudge..

https://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2023/01/19/washington-has-resurrected-the-threat-of-nuclear-armageddon/

President John F. Kennedy and Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev worked together independently of their military/security bureaucracies to resolve the issue. Both paid a price.  President Kennedy was murdered by the CIA and Joint Chiefs of Staff who were determined not to lose the Soviet enemy that justified their power and budgets.  Khrushchev was removed from power by Communist Party hardliners suspicious of accommodation to the capitalist enemy.

After President Johnson destroyed himself in the military/security complex’s Vietnam War, President Nixon renewed the tension reducing policy of President Kennedy.  The Strategic Arms Limitations Talks (SALT) and arms limitations agreements followed.  President Nixon topped them off by opening to China and replacing that tense relationship with the “one China” policy.  This was again too much for the US military/security complex, and they orchestrated with the Washington Post the “Watergate” scandal to remove him from office.

Matt believes that an objective truth is needed to determine what is right and wrong, and that the inflation scale used to measure the economy is completely fraudulent yet still widely accepted. He believes the Fed’s pivot to quantitative easing will cause hyperinflation and further fracture faith in the Fed. He suggests that a reset may be the only option, but this could be highly chaotic and could be used to control people.

Matt explains that gold is a valuable asset for currencies and is an inflation hedge. He also likes agricultural land and Bitcoin’s narrative, as gold offers certainty and security. He believes the US will experience stagflation, with slow growth and rising inflation, and that the Fed’s pivot will be very dangerous. Matt encourages people to think more critically, question what they are being told, and be open-minded to changing their opinions. He believes sound money, regardless of what form it takes, is the solution to the issues that come with printing money.

his trees blocked neighbors view of  puget sound.

I'd like to know the whole story.  HOA probably considered cost of defense (even though they soak the property owners for everything) and decided to make the guy cut the trees.
My HOA ...specifies... which trees CAN be planted and where.  I like the regs.
My last house was a nightmare of recession driven blight.
All the kids moved back home.  Cars parked all over the place.  Fences erected in front yards.  Truly an okie heaven.
Was nice when I bought the place.
Then.....no.
Glad I left.

No HOA, per se, here in my subdivision....however, there are covenants limiting one from certain things, like outdoor fires to burn up deadfalls from trees or trash, etc., and they don't allow 'animal (& bird) raising', so no chickens clucking in mah backyard....They prolly wouldn't want me putting in a small fish farm in lieu of that damned big yard of grass that grows incessantly....yeah....maybe frogs and mushrooms like the woolybugger.....

Miley says

Top US general says Ukraine war has become an 'absolute catastrophe' for Russia, estimating it's suffered 'significantly well over' 100,000 casualties

Milley on Friday said Russia has suffered "significantly well over" 100,000 casualties in Ukraine.
This marked a slight update from a figure Milley offered in November.
Milley urged Putin to end the war, saying it had become an "absolute catastrophe" for Moscow.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley on Friday said that Russia has "really suffered a lot" in Ukraine and urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war.

"The Russian casualties — last time I reported out on it publicly, I said it was well over 100,000. I would say it's significantly well over 100,000 now," Milley said at a news conference alongside Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in Germany, providing a slight update on a figure the top US general offered in November.

Our neighborhood has restrictive covenants that were put into place by the developer to protect the developer. He enforced them when he was still building here. Once he was done they were never enforced. In fact I would bet that most of the people in my neighborhood are completely unaware that restrictive covenants even exist. For example we can't have fences. But over the years fences have popped up everywhere, even in my yard, which  I need for my dog. Also no storage buildings, but lots of my neighbors have them. Fortunately nobody has built anything too unsightly.

Milley's statements, though untrue, are to be expected. We don't want Europeans to lose hope in this endeavor. I believe the real goal of the US is to use Europe's irrational hatred of Russia to weaken Russia and in the process dissolve NATO and the European Union. Basically a strategy of tension. This will put Western Europe into poverty. Also Europe will be marginalized away from greater influence on global financial and political affairs. This will ultimately drive European wealth, resources and talent to the US. Lastly most of the money the US is appropriating for this endeavor is finding its way to defense firms for new weapons systems and payoffs to US and European political leaders to support this activity.
