I was out most of the early evening, so playing catch-up here....Regarding aurator's comments on the Salvation Army -- while I certainly don't condone their recent "white man bad" crap, I will say that they are probably THE best choice for where to make a donation. Their 'Commissioner" receives a magnanimous salary of $13,000. a year...The CEO for the Red Cross scoops in $651,000.+ a year as a 'salary'....The head at United Way snags $375,000.+ a year for his salary....The CEO of UNICEF takes a generous $1,200,000. a year, plus all expenses and a nice Rolls Royce with a chauffeur for his travels between solicitation engagements! Goodwill Industries? Well, it turns a profit of +/- $2.3 million a year....what CEO and owner, Mark Curran keeps is unknown, but it's no doubt more than you and I are making! OH, the March of Dimes is another sleight-of-hand "charity" as only one dime of every dollar donated actually goes to research...guess where the rest goes?. . .The Make-A-Wish Foundation does put all monies received toward fulfilling the wishes/dreams of those young kids struggling with life-threatening diseases, with less than $20K paid out to administrators (mostly volunteer helpers)...And, in Canada, The Canadian Legion's National Commander receives NO salary -- strictly a voluntary position..The Ronald McDonald Houses donations virtually all go to the running of the houses and providing meals for the families of children hospitalized, with a minimal drawdown for service personnel and food expenses....Lastly, Saint Jude's Hospital for Children has an 85% pass-through for all donations, with less than 15% earmarked for the operation and national mailings for solicitations.....SO, pick your donation recipients carefully.....some are virtually a front for ongoing greedy scams in effect.....
