If I had sold 6 weeks ago, i would have missed a 22% increase in my portfolio. Some of those gains were bound to retrace.

Yesterday I was down .5%, today down 3.5%.

as far as the gold stocks go...this looks like a 4 down to me with another up to follow...if there isn't a complete failure.

even crappy KGC is still up 20% at today's low...over it's Oct low....and 37% if you took some profits at it's recent high.

I actually did buy FSM this morning for the bounce - it has a 3 month reprieve on its Line Covenants from the lender & the courts are protecting the operation ST - oversold today, so look to trade out Monday/Tuesday @ the bounce

Not really..
Why buy into a sector at the end of the year knowing tax loss selling would hurt the ENTIRE sector

Just Sayin..The Bigger picture helps someone sometimes not step in a pile of Poop

Not putting money in this sector last six weeks looks to be  a good call..

I am trying to do the same in other sectors crypto, stock market (don't bet against it when trend is your friend)..
Trying to trade a bearish sector or a corrective mode  is best to short after a big move up and use  DUST or another vehicle (Those Canajuns like to short up there)
I know a trader that was actually on the floor in NYSE but found himself  displaced
with program trading.
He has clients who he advises for his income(does very well)
He did tell me that it was easier to short and make money .We have all seen a stock advance and in several days profits are gone
ANYWAY I make my mistakes sometimes....Trying not to be wrong ALL the time

We all know these things..(preaching to the choir) but we need to keep an eye on where we are in a cycle and a season(sometimes not so easy)

Biden has empowered all the Eco-folk - he's definitely caught in a vise re the economy. If a conservative said something like this, the FBI would be at his door at 6AM with a battering ram

Who said buy?

But I’m saying buy golds at the end of December before January 1.

I think January 2022 is going to be a market disaster.

to each his own ..Lets see where we are after end of year selling..
If you were nimble and did buy in at Oct low good for you..but what I am trying to say is Holding it now has cost you
some of your profit and tax selling is not over.

Just the way I see it today..It could change

GFI has two downside gapola's that haven't been filled...

not liking my chances that it won't be sooner rather than later.

wol, I am assuming the reference to tax loss selling is being applied to equities held by Canadian investors. A person can sell, apply the capital loss against past or future gains, and the rule is you can buy it back 30 days later.

Just got back in

I think a major downdraft in stock markets will destroy liquidity including mining stocks

when the smoke clears ...a bounce in the markets and then I would buy gold stocks for the foreseeable future for a buy and hold for the long haul
that is how I am going to play it
of course that could change depending on the wind at the time

Frustrated - yea, if you've watch the pre-market action, they have walked this stock down everyday in Pre-M  Hasn't made a bit of difference in the price of gold - wake up in the morning & B/A is 25-40 cents lower. Same sellers every day.

I have been in & out, but waiting for that Pre-M action to stop before getting serious about it. I really like the fundamentals - think their diversification is very good - their management is the best I've seen in PMs. They totally get it - nice exit & move away from SA & they have great leverage above $1800, given all the SA assets are break-even right there. But once it was clear we weren't holding $1800, I've stayed away from a hold position.

Gold n Sludge ..
Well, in the face of a strong USD (up 0.36% today so far), Gold and PM stocks are holding their own.
Even with Sludge down -0.8%, silver stocks (SIL/SILJ) are outperforming.
Good to see ... fingers crossed that the bottom is in.
Yea I know .. too optimistic ..

"Indeed, this fact alone tells you all you need to know: There are now more ETFs than actual single-company names traded on the stock markets!"

Funny…this story never made the boards…

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/blackrock-feds-wall-street-croupier

Is once a Fink…..always a Fink…?

Is lump of coal also a "black rock "..?

ETF’s are going to end up just like the "mutual funds” disaster of yester years
Keeping in mind IShares SLV is a BlackRock "product"

When Warren gets his silver "back" ( he was the source of silver to start the SLV game)
….then it is time to pull anothers wagon out of the ditch and load up 😂

Gone again….Parkinson’s rules this homestead….be very thankful that balance is not one of yer problems in life…with lots of LOVE ❤️ we are making it

Psst…be careful and use stops…a wound is better than being gutted…

The headline reads consumer spending rose 1.3% in October.

How much of that was inflation?  Did wages rise 1.3%?

From MMB's Weekly Gold update.

In fact "surprise, surprise, surprise" if measuring from mid-year 2014, (albeit their respective routes hardly are in linear harmony), Gold is +39.7% and yet the Dollar Index is +20.4%. So even more broadly there, no directional favoritism. And yet from that date some seven years ago, the supply of Gold is only +10.7% whereas the U.S. "M2" money supply is +88.4%. Further with specific respect (or lack thereof) to the Dollar, recall from Econ 101 class that more of something (in this case much more) makes it worth less, arguably in the Dollar's case worthless.

Squire, we long ago stopped counting the number of would-be S&P blow-off tops. Remember: as we've herein put forth for many-a-year, this is now the age of the stock market being the Great American Savings Account. "You have to be IN!" they say. "Gold's for the BIN!" they say. And then there's the ever-annoying individual blurter: "I bought X back at blah and am now making BLAH!" For whom we have this important reminder: the market capitalization of the S&P 500 as of Friday night is $41.4 trillion; yet the liquid M2 money supply of the U.S. is but half that at $21.4 trillion. So when it all goes wrong, good luck in getting out with something.

OK bufford ...why was that dumb....it hit that number and bounced lower, I always watch the short-term charts as a precursor to the longer term ones. But that is only if you are actively trading.

a good number to watch...POG hasn't closed above the 50 MA on the 30 minute chart since the 19th

currently sits at 1789.30

and going into the Holidays..A sullen reminder

Many times in history(including many in the last hundred years the stock markets (Wiemer),property values, and everything tangible kept going up for a LONGGGG time until it collapses..It can reward hard asset minded investers if we let it .
I have to remind myself many times
and
Don't bet against the HOUSE

A stock market drop will be the Houses way of getting investors OFF the train and buy cheap
and then it will scream higher ,day after day after day

I believe in my opinion this will be  a high probability scenario

Take some of new profits and pay off old debts(if you have mortgage and.....

Everyone have a great Thanksgiving and weekend

Pyrite...I didn't get the connection between the $1. Educational note and Laurie Sperber's dissatisfaction with the number of young Bitcoiners buying up better coins....

When we were still in downtown Seattle, we appraised a really neat collection of banknotes for a major bank estate.  We made an offer on the lot and got it....There were 3 or more 4-note and 6-note UNCUT sheets of Black Eagles, and sundry other series with two 4-note sheets of that Educational $1.00 note.....We sold one sheet to a local currency collector and heard, later on, the dumb bassard CUT them into four singles so he could give each of his kids one....sheesh...he knocked at least $5000. or more out of the value by doing so, but...whatta you do?

Tom, it be could an innocuous link or attachment, Kaspersky tends to err on the cautious side. I always click on Pyrite's Numis never had a problem with those. That same attachment appears under a few more his/hers earlier posts.

The Fed's favorite inflation number to watch is the PCE, so they are now talking about a faster taper...

Good nuze for Santa Cruze...

https://www.kalw.org/news/2021-11-22/santa-cruz-county-reimposes-mask-mandate

"The mask requirement went into effect today (Monday). It applies to everyone in the county, regardless of their vaccination status.

In addition to applying in public spaces like grocery stores and offices, the mandate will also apply in private settings like a .....PERSON'S HOME..... when members of another household are present, according to the county."

To be safe, only have Thanksgiving dinner with people in YOUR household.

Apollo and Frustrated, thanks for calling my attention to Sibanye/Stillwater. I made a pile on SWC 9x from buying as a pink and sell at the 40.00 top nearly two decades ago. SWC was never living up to the hype once it got going on the charts so I sold at a lucky point. I will have to school my ignorant self on what the companies are now.

1448 Pyrite, I am planning a southwestern style Thanksgiving where each and all eight congregants can use the pull tab on their externally washed cans of Hormel Chili with Beans. Each reveler will get a packet of sodium hypochlorite as a flavor enhancer. Bottled Nestle water will be served on the veranda. Diet Cokes for the cavalier extreme element.

Hey ROAN, I bought some seed garlic for 75% off. You pushed me into the stinky herb. Besides, they have interesting flowers. If wild onion profusely grows here, the garlic should be a cinch. It is a pity that they do not seem to be suitable for Bonsai although it is still worth a try.

Here is a video of Mike Green discussing how the rise of passive investing has distorted the stock market. I will have to watch this more than once. He makes the point that, eventually, at some point TBD, the market may effectively go no-bid.

Erle: The garlic will reward you many times. First in the spring are the scapes, yummy fried in olive oil. Then in early August pull the bulbs and clean them. Hang them to dry. Depending upon the type you have they will last 6-9 months. They are really good for your health and help in warding off unwanted people. My wife is now getting fussy about which ones she will use in salad dressing or for cooking. Me I like the full bodied ones crushed on a BBQ steak! Enjoy.
