Mr. T was a foo'....I did a sizeable deal on behalf of John & Jenny who had a shop in Chicago acting as a buyer for them at a Long Beach Show -- they had an order for $350K of slabbed gold, but were unable to go themselves due to some family issues with her folks.  Anyway, they had a home west of Chicago in Forest Park(?) about a block down the street from Mr. T's estate....The citizens of the area were irate 'cause after Mr. T had moved into this 3 acre mansion, he'd had tall iron fences put up around the property and had over 50 lovely old Oak trees cleared away for "security purposes"....from the road, it looked absurd as a great many of the big tree stumps were still in place...He was not a popular neighbor, apparently....

Big fisherman, if the boxes are in good condition they are collectable. If you know the storage conditions you could shoot them. I would advise against any rapid fire in case you find a semi- dud and blow up your gun.

Dunno if I ever related it here about the time the well dressed couple came in to sell 25 or 30 Krugerrands.
They asked if they had to fill anything out and did it have to be ....REPORTED ???

Told em the quantity was supposed to be reported on a form 8300.
They said OK and I got the form and their ID.

They neatly and quickly complied and I thanked em for their bizz.

Then I called my biggest competitor.   Asked if they had been there too.

............silence on the phone.

Then some stammering.   and........... uh....more stammering.....then....asked if I did the form....then..... he described them.

To a T.

Mister T  ???  not quite.    heh heh heh

I bought a monster box of silver a while back.  Unfortunately I cut the mint strap to look inside. Did I lose value when I did that?  If so, roughly how much per coin?

13762...yeah, you probably lost $300. in cutting that strap, but, then again, the demand for "unopened" monster boxes has diminished in recent years, so it may get to the level that it makes little difference if the straps were cut or not....

Hambone, I bought a number of monster boxes years ago and cut all the straps to prove that they had actually sent me the product I paid for.

Of course I kept all the green boxes, but there was no way for me to provide fireproof storage for all those silver eagles in a bank box so I just had to stack them.

The boxes are in nice shape.  Also a bunch of long rifle bricks from the same era, full of brand new little boxes.  No price tags.

I purchased this 500 round box of .22 for $14.80 at Treasure Island, a local Madison, Wisconsin outfit in 1980.  With 5% sales tax the total would have been $15.54 or about 3 cents per round.

Also purchased a Marlin model 60 that day. Put down cash on the counter and walked out with no one thinking anything of it.   No background checks or copies driver's license numbers as it was a different era 42 years ago.

Madison has changed so much that I'd imagine if the story above was repeated to some UW liberal arts major they would end up being 'triggered' by it.

13771....this Kelleigh Nelson might well be accused of formenting some sort of action if her closing comment is taken literally:

" Please take a stand against this Luciferian evil which has permeated our beloved nation.  Too many have died to save her, let them not have died in vain"

There are certainly those who would LIKE to 'take a stand' but have not yet been pushed to the brink of acting..but, it's getting overwhelming, isn't it?

There is a lot of imagined wealth in cryptos vaporizing before our eyes right now. No idea how much leverage there is, or who is on the hook, but it ain't pretty.

Crypto is just a liquidity indicator, like the QQQ's.

Why did your competitor hum and haw..etc  And why your knowing heh-heh-heh? Sorry, I don't get the point of the story.

PS Buying and selling KR here was a common things, could do it thru' the Stock Exchange too. Lot of dealers are advertising buying 'old' or 'unwanted' gold....

There is a 1983 movie called 'The Star Chamber'.   The premise is repugnant IF (and that is the operative word) we exist as a society of laws.  We don't; not any longer.  I wish we had that but it is clear over the last 7 years that such a society does not exist in the US any longer.

The point has come to 'take out the garbage' as it is stinking up the entire joint.

I thought I read that there were Chinese troops in northern Canada doing cold weather training for a long time. This Fufeng corn plant would make sense if one considers there are two Air Force Base,s right near us PLUS the ND State flour mill that provides over half the country,s flour. Interstate connections also.
Then the US dollar is in a crack up boom. COVID, Monkee pox. Crypto crash. Near hyper inflation and a thousand things not in the supply chain. No way we get another election so time to prepare is really short

Happy Fathers day to ALL Dads and Grandpas and future Dads

Psalm 127:4-5
New King James Version
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.

5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
They shall not be ashamed,
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.

I would really like to know how in h**l one actually trades these markets when news that one thinks would cause something to rise or fall turns a trade strongly against the trader....take Crude Oil, for example, which, with the news of sales of oil to the Saudi should have triggered a rise, instead, we're down nearly $6.00 bbl on Brent on Friday at the close with nothing yet happening tonight....sheesh....are they celebrating juneteenth over there ?

Using a word that is not a word, to denote a Federal Holiday, is akin to the FedGoo tossing statues into the drink.

Just got a long distance call from Thomas Jefferson, he's IRATE, someone left the freedom cake out in the rain.

All that sweet red, white and blue icing flowing down, he don't think that he can take it, took so long to bake it.

Yeah, the white oppressors built this highly advanced society from scratch, so that you fat and out of shape layabouts have enough surplus income and time, to protest all your tragic injustices, instead of pulling weeds out in the fields, which is where you will soon be, if you collapse the country's economy with your asinine solutions to all of our 'social ills'.

That appears to be a run-on sentence, terribly sorry about that, do carry on.

Happy Father's Day!

For those that knew him, the memorial for David Hakes was today and was very nice. I got to meet the kids, all the grand and great-grand kids, too. Got to hear lots of memories of him.

Here's a pic of the original shop in Missoula from the 1970s.

13820.....I hear ya. DangerBird.....I did O.K. earlier in the year, made a few shekels, but, over the past 3-4 months, those winnings have been gradually eroded on trades that, otherwise (in 'normal' markets) should not have occured...very frustrating and, in truth, a bit depressing and irritating when one works diligently to establish a trade only to have some "extraneous" event or out-of-the-blue Fed-head suddenly hold a presser which results in a reversal in the market one is trading.....grrr-r-r-r....So, for now, and likely the rest of the summer, I'm on the sidelines, keeping my accounts open but only spectating...(and, yes, wolavka, I DO use stops when I'm unsure..)

13826....Glad Dave Hakes got a "good sendoff"...He helped me out of a mess in the mid-80's, and I worked there for him unraveling probably 15-20 years worth of "stuff" he had thrown into cans and desk drawers, etc. I spent a winter there in Missoula when, for three weeks, the temps never got above 17 degrees...I was glad I had a strong battery in my old car to get it started every morning.  In the early 2000's, we partnered a deal which, after I'd handled the liquidation of it, he got a bit 'grabby' wanting a bigger chunk of the proceeds than the 50-50 we'd agreed upon....I told him it wasn't going to happen, and we had a falling out, although I did do some more 'bullion' business with him...I was sad that our relationship ended that way, but I'd heard from a few other folks that he could be a bit ruthless and self-serving....anyway, he ran a helluva good operation there for a great many years.  RIP, Mr. Hakes...

13830...wolavka.....good on ya, mate!  Frankly, since I started trading futures in 1979, there have been damn few situations where I ever used stops, either...But the markets of the past few months, and even at times last year during the Covid scuttlebutt, I felt it was prudent to do so rather than take a big drawdown....Oh, I did take a few, however, but was in contracts far enough out that I had time to make a recovery, which I did, and sneaked away by the skin of my teeth....Stops are targets for the friends of the order takers, I know, so most of the time mine are fairly wide and away from the point of my entry......

PB1--that crypto letter of warning from scientist and software engineer is pretty damning. It demolishes the paradigm for the very existence of cryptoworld. Left in tatters like the like its price has become in the last few week. Someone who left (booted?) would be saying 'a nothingburger'.

Revenge served cold; Putin is citing the Kosovo precedent for independence, the Donbass doesn't need permission.

He's one smooth operator, watch him deftly work the G7's motley crew of moronic misfits, it's only just begun.

The Russians have actual plans, the G7 has committees of deluded 'stakeholders' who discuss assorted fantasies.

13834....Isn't that absurd, RACK....$8.00 +/- for a pound of hamburger!?! I noticed comparable pricing out here last week, but the 85% (15% fat content) stuff, which I actually find to be tastier, was literally $6.15/lb. -- still way above the old days of 3lbs. for $5.00, eh?  I wonder what a 1/4 pounder at McDonalds will soon rise to?

@BIGLEY--I rather like this phrase of yours...."The Russians have actual plans, the G7 has committees of deluded 'stakeholders' who discuss assorted fantasies" I think it is equally applicable to Washington's think tanks and the current decision makers on Ukraine battlefield support!

DIRECT THINKING THAT LOOKS AT THE HEART OF A PROBLEM WOKS VERY WELL IN SCIENCE TOO.

Thanks very much, tomsue,  spent some time on the jabberwocky/SADS/mystified morticians file yesterday.

The new normal long 'blood clots' under microscope do not resemble blood clots, nor do they have the texture.

They appear to be 'protein structures' accumulating in the bloodstream, the photos (if real) are truly bizarre.

We have a 'strange new chemical' in the upper atmosphere, that may be causing heart and respiratory problems.

Yes, that was the headline, it's also contributing to climate change, that's called a tie-in, this is getting really lame.

85% hamburger tastes WAY better than 93%

Fat's where it's at!

but going to 75% is too far.
"Racist" is a toolword. You must know that.
